Serendipity & Love in the time of Cholera

Holiday season is a time to be with the whole family celebrating Jesus Christ’s birthday, a time of gift giving to all your love ones and friends and for me, it’s also a longer time off from work. I do set my mind to use extra time to relax for I know there will be lots and lots of work when the year ends.

After the Christmas celebration, seeing my seldom seen relatives, updating each other and taking pictures, I decided to watch again one of my favorite romantic comedy films, which is SERENDIPITY. I just love this 2001 movie since the first time I saw it. A story about love that revolves around fate, destiny, of meant to be and chance. I did watch this movie several times but amazingly, this time, I recognized for the first time the featured book, “ Love in the time of Cholera”. It’s about a heart’s eternal vow to love. I saw the movie version of the book just this year, and found out that the book was first published in Spanish sometime in 1985 and translated in English in 1988. I’m so thankful for the extra time to do the things I love and for the time to relax.

CNN Hero 2009 EFREN PEÑAFLORIDA

For the past 12 years, Peñaflorida and his team of teen volunteers have taught basic reading and writing to children living on the streets. Their main tool: A pushcart classroom.

Stocked with books, pens, tables and chairs, his Dynamic Teen Company recreates a school setting in unconventional locations such as the cemetery and municipal trash dump.

Peñaflorida knows firsthand the adversity faced by these children. Born into a poor family, he lived in a shanty near the city dump site. But he says he refused to allow his circumstances to define his future.

"Instead of being discouraged, I promised myself that I would pursue education," he recalls. "I will strive hard; I will do my best."

CONGRATULATIONS EFREN! YOU MADE US PROUD TO BE FILIPINO

Love Won't Let Us Be

Broken Heart Myspace Comments
MyNiceSpace.com

So many answers,
Looking for the reason to believe
Search for what is real
So many reasons,
I try to find the one that fits my heart
Trust in what I feel
You and I
we find ourselves not knowing who we are
Different worlds apart

Time will lead our way
Heaven's kindness is there for me
In my heart, you will always stay
Cause love won't let us be

Think of all the moments
Remembering the precious times we shared
The love we used to have
If i see tomorrow not brave enough,
That it's not you and me
I'll learn to set you free
So afraid,
knowing that its time to say goodbye
Will i realize

Time will lead our way
Heaven's kindness is there for me
In my heart, you will always stay
Cause love won't let us be

What i feel
Is something that no words can ever show
Its part of letting go

Time will lead our way
Heaven's kindness is there for me
In my heart, you will always stay
Cause love won't let us be

Love won't let us...... be

Not feeling too well

I am not feeling too good for two weeks now. Got flu despite of the flu vaccine. With all the body pains, fever and above all losing my voice due to dry cough. I know now what Ariel the little mermaid experienced. It’s just so hard to communicate if you have no voice. I hope and pray that I will completely feel better soon. Until then. It sucks to be sick.

LAPTOP SLEEVES

Ever since I own a laptop, I have been looking for a nice laptop sleeve or bag. When we purchase one, We are given a default laptop bag, usually the black ones but that also means that whoever bought exact same model will have the same bag.

Searching in the net, there are lots of really nice and cool laptop sleeves, however, they are either very expensive or not available in our area.
As for me, I want a laptop sleeve or bag that protects against scratches and impact damage yet, also stylish and functional.

Finally, I got myself one I found at SM store. I also bought a matching case for my digital camera and a bag to complete the set. I really love the color (girl na girl).

SPIDER MAN AND THE CLASSIC

I remember one of my countless godchildren Andre told me before with much excitement and enthusiasm that he watched Spider man movies a hundred times. At six, you can see that he knows spider man movies by heart. This reminds me of the many times too that I watched the Korean movie "The Classic". Though I find the movie so sad that I cried sobbing the first time I saw it, the love story of the characters of the movie somehow has touched me deep down inside. Last night, again, I watched the movie for the __nth time.. and tears fall down on my cheeks every time.

P.S. Its Andre's birthday today. Happy 7th birthday Andre. Be a good boy always.

Free WI-FI

my friend Sheryl

When I asked my friend Sheryl to help me something on my blog site, we came to choose from the many coffee shops and restaurants that have free WI-FI. You see, WIFI once just a marketing tool for restaurants is now necessary to entice and keep customers.

Well, my friend and I chose to try Tata Benito's located at Bajada since it's just a walking distance from the office. I find their coffee and pasta just fine and affordable.

By the way, I would like to THANK Sheryl for the help. I really appreciate it.

Feast of the Assumption

Assumption of Mary
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Assumption of the Virgin Mary has been a subject of veneration, doctrine and Catholic Marian art for centuries. This painting is by Rubens, 1626.

The Assumption of Mary is the traditional belief held by Christians of the Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodoxy, some Protestant churches (including Lutherans and Anglo-Catholics), that the Virgin Mary at the end of her life was physically taken up into heaven. The Roman Catholic Church teaches as dogma that Mary, "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory." This doctrine was dogmatically and infallibly defined by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950, in his Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus. This event is known as the Dormition by the Orthodox. In those denominations that observe it, the Assumption is a major festival, commonly celebrated on August 15. This is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church.

In his August 15, 2004 homily given at Lourdes, Pope John Paul II quoted John 14:3 as a scriptural basis for understanding the dogma of the Assumption of Mary. In this verse, Jesus tells his disciples at the Last Supper, "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also." According to Catholic theology, Mary is the pledge of the fulfillment of Christ's promise.

Thank you and Farewell Madam Cory Aquino

I was in my fourth year in high school when the Edsa Revolution happened in 1986. We even called our batch as the 'REVOLUTION'. Since then I became vigilant and socially aware of what's happening in our country. Thank you very much Ma'am Cory for always inspiring us to keep democracy alive in the Philippines. You made us proud to be Filipinos.

Maria Corazon "Cory" Sumulong Cojuangco Aquino (January 25, 1933 – August 1, 2009) was the 11th President of the Philippines, serving from 1986 to 1992. She was the first female president of the Philippines and was Asia's first female president.

A self-proclaimed "plain housewife",[2] Aquino was married to Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. (1932–1983), a leading figure in the political opposition against the autocratic rule of President Ferdinand Marcos. After her husband was assassinated upon his return from exile in the United States on August 21, 1983, Aquino, who had no prior political experience, became a focal point and unifying force of the opposition against Marcos. She was drafted to run against Marcos in the 1986 snap presidential elections. After Marcos was proclaimed the winner despite widespread reports of electoral fraud, Aquino was installed as President by the peaceful 1986 People Power Revolution.

Aquino's presidency saw the restoration of democratic institutions in the Philippines, through the enactment of a new Constitution which limited the powers of the presidency, restored the bicameral Congress, and renewed emphasis on civil liberties. Her administration was likewise hampered by several military coup attempts by disaffected members of the Philippine military which derailed a return to full political stability and economic development.

Aquino died on August 1, 2009 from colon cancer.

Araw Ng Kalayaan

Excerpt from Google Search - Wikipedia

The Philippine Declaration of Independence occurred on June 12, 1898 in Cavite el Viejo (now Kawit), Cavite, Philippines. With the public reading of the Act of the Declaration of Independence, Filipino revolutionary forces under General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the sovereignty and independence of the Philippine Islands from the colonial rule of Spain, which had been recently defeated at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War.
The declaration, however, was not recognized by the United States or Spain. The Spanish government later ceded the Philippines to the United States in the 1898 Treaty of Paris that ended the Spanish-American War.
The United States recognized Philippine independence on July 4, 1946 in the Treaty of Manila.[1] July 4 was observed in the Philippines as Independence Day until August 4, 1964 when, upon the advice of historians and the urging of nationalists, President Diosdado Macapagal signed into law Republic Act No. 4166 designating June 12 as the country's Independence Day.[2] June 12 had previously been observed as Flag Day.

Things Just Got Out of Hand

Just so sad of how things turned out in the office today. Things just got out of hand. I guess it’s my day of " when it rains, it pours." Well, I've learned my lesson. The one who got away

copied from Kristine P. (facebook) just want to share this:

In your life, you'll make note of a lot of people. Ones with whom you shared something special, ones who will always mean something.. There's the one you first kissed, the one you first loved, the one you lost your virginity to, the one you put on a pedestal, the one you're with and the one that got away..

Who is the one that got away? I guess its that person with whom everything was great, everything was perfect but the timing was just wrong. There was no fault in the person, there was no flaw in the chemistry, but the cards just didn't fall the right way, I suppose.

I believe in the fact that ending up with someone, finding a long time partner that is, does not merely lie in the other person. I can actually argue that an equal part, or maybe even the greater part, has to do with the matter of timing. It has to do with you being ready to settle down and commit to someone in a way that goes beyond the little niceties of giddy romance.

How often have you gone through it without even realizing it? When you're not ready to commit in that mature manner, it doesn't matter who you're with, it just doesn't work!! Small problems become big; incosequentials become dealbreakers simply because you're not ready and it shows. Its not that you and the person you're with are not good; its just that its not yet right and little things become the flashpoint of that fact.

Then one day you're ready. You really are. And when this happens you'll be ready to settle down with someone. He or she may not be the most perfect, they might not be the brightest star of romance to ever have burned in your life, but it will work because you're ready. It'll work because it's the right time and you'll make it work. And it'll make sense, it really will.

So that day comes when you're finally making sense of things and you find yourself to be a different person. Things are different, your approach is different, you finally understand who you are and what you want, and you've become ready because the time has truly arrived. And mind you, there's no telling when this day will come. Hopefully you're single but you could be in a long-term relationship, you could be married with three kids, it doesn't matter. All you know is that you've changed, and for some reason, the one that got away, is the first person you think about.

You'll think about them because you'll wonder "what if they were here today?" you'll wonder, "what if we were together now, with me as I am and not as I was?" the biggest "What if" you'll have in your life.

If youre married, you'll just have to accept the fact that the one that got away, got away. Believe me, no matter how fairy tale you think you'e marriage is, this can happen to the best of us. But hopefully you're mature enough to relaize that you're already with the one you're with and this is just another test of your commitment, one which will surely strengthen your marriage when you get past it. Sure, you'll think about him/her evry so often, but its alright. Its never nice to live with a "might have been" but it happens.

Maybe the one that got away is the one who's already married. In which case it's the same thing. You just have to accept and know that your memories of that person will probably bring a nice little smile to your lips in the future when you're old and gray and reminiscing.

But if neither of that is the case, then its different. What do you do if it's not yet too late? Simple.. Find him. Find her. Because the very existence of a "one that got away" means that you'll always wonder, what if you got that one?

Ask him out to coffee, ask her out to a movie, it doesn't matter if you've dropped in from out of nowhere. You'd be surprised, you just might be "the one that got away" as well as for the person who is you "the one that got away". You might drop in form nowhere and it wont make a difference. If the timing is finally right, it'll all just fall into place somehow and you know, im thinking, it would be a great feeling, in the end, to be able to say to someone

"hey, you're the one that almost got away.."

The longest 18 days of my life

I was so excited to update my blog whenever I will be home from vacation. But, I never expected to update it with this kind of post.

We are on our most awaited vacation in Bohol when after our tour for the day, my mother accidentally fell on the tiled floor of her cousin's place not noticing the step down from the elevated part of the house with all her weight on her right hip.
You see my mom has rheumatoid arthritis causing her difficulty in walking. We need to assist and watched her while walking and especially on stairs. But that day, I too did not notice the uneven floor. My mother cried in pain, can't even sit or stand. We called an ambulance and brought her to the hospital in Tagbilaran City. The diagnosis: Fracture femural neck right. The doctors explained that my mother needed an operation for her to walk. I was really frightened having all these in a place far away from home not the mention the money needed for the operation and above all, seeing my mother in pain. The doctors did a partial hip anthroplasty, right hip with cemented bone. May mother stayed in the hospital from May 11-26 and finally we traveled home on the 28th. 18 days and it felt like I've aged for 18 years.

I really thank God for the strength given going through all this... my aunts and relatives in Bohol for all the help and the 6 doctors who attended to my mom.

Manny ' Pacman' Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao is really the world’s undisputed No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter as he finished off Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton in the second round of their 12-round megafight Saturday night (Sunday morning RP time) at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Pacquiao now has six weight division titles to his name as the win gave him the IBO and Ring Magazine junior welterweight championship. It was the 49th victory of the world’s Best Fighter with three losses and two draws.

Again, Pacquiao gives honor and pride to the Philippines and Filipinos in the whole world.

Prayer for Protection

I would like to share with you this prayer we can say anytime specially on travel.

I sign myself with the sign of the cross the sign of victory.
I cover myself with the precious blood of the lamb.
I surround myself with the light of Jesus Christ.
In the name of Jesus, nothing can break through this wall
of protection
to harm me. AMEN.

HAIL HOLY QUEEN

Hail holy Queen, mother of mercy
Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you, do we cry, poor banished children of eve
To you, do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in
this valley of tears.

Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy
towards us

and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of
your womb, Jesus.

My sister and I are very excited about our long awaited vacation to Bohol this coming May. After so many years, my mother, sister and myself can visit the place again. It would also be the first time for my nephew James. My brother in-law cannot come with us though, for there's no one to take care of the other members of the family. You see, we have the following to take care of:
  • 2 dogs
  • 6 cats (3 adult and 3 kittens)
  • 2 flower horn fishes
  • 3 Martines birds
  • 2 pairs of love birds
  • 3 gold fishes
  • 1 black molly
  • 1 hen
Now, who says my brother in-law is home alone? hehehe....
